can I say about Dr Who that hasn't been written, discussed, digested
and dissected a million times? Probably not much, but what I can do
is keep you up to speed with where it's at in my world now. As far
as the latest series is concerned, it is unmissable in my house. We
all love it - the comedy, the drama, the special effects, the
performances - appeal differently to each member of my family, but
that is such a credit to the team working on the show right now.
They have definitely given the whole show the fabulous lease of life
that it needed.
As you probably
know, Dr Who has never really gone away, the books, fan sites,
conventions and audio dramas have kept it alive and moving. I'm glad
to be a part of that by giving Mel a fresh voice in the Big Finish
CDs. I have worked mostly with Gary Russell, who is now a part of
that successful team working on the TV series. Sad though I am that
Gary is no longer directly involved with the recordings, it's
sensational that he is now working at the heart ( or should I say,
hearts!) of the Doctor Who machine.
The most
recent audio that I have recorded has just been released - 'Red'. A
great cast included my friend Sandi Toksvig. It was very fortunate
that Gary was directing, he really has the patience of a saint and
the authority to pull back giggling actors when they are going to
the point of no serious return. Sandi and I were recording a scene
laced with many subtle innuendos that set us off laughing
uncontrollably. The only answer was to turn our backs to each other
and get through the scene immediately and without hesitation or
thought. So, what you hear on the CD is the only ever take of that
scene - it may not be perfect, but it was never going to happen any
other way. See if you know which scene I am talking about.
I have been
answering some of your questions on a forum lately. If you want to
add any of your own queries or comments, you can put them on my
guestbook or go to this link. I promise I'll deal with them as
swiftly as possible.
